Steelers QB Roethlisberger reaches new career milestones

17 November 2017 05:23

Ben Roethlisberger added another milestone to his Hall of Fame career.

A three-yard completion to tight end Jesse James in the second quarter of Thursday's game against the Tennessee Titans gave the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback 4,000 completions for his career. Roethlisberger is the ninth quarterback in NFL history with at least 4,000 completions.

He entered Thursday's game needing nine completions to reach 4,000 for his career and 214 yards to pass Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon for eighth all time.

After his completion to James, Roethlisberger had 97 yards in Thursday's game on nine-of-17 passing. He finished the first half 10 of 22 for 114 yards and a touchdown as the Steelers held a 16-7 half-time lead at Heinz Field. Roethlisberger passed Moon on the all-time yards list with an 18-yard pass to rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster with two minutes, 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The pass to Smith-Schuster came during a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a one-yard pass to James on the first play of the fourth quarter to give the Steelers a 30-17 lead.

Roethlisberger also moved past Philip Rivers for eighth place all-time in career completions with a 14-yard pass to running back Le'Veon Bell early in the third quarter.

The Steelers selected Roethlisberger with the 11th overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. He was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2004 and has won a pair of Super Bowls while leading the Steelers to another title game. The five-time Pro Bowler has thrown for 49,226 yards and 316 touchdowns with 170 interceptions. He has also rushed for another 1,209 yards and 16 scores over his 14-year career.

Roethlisberger, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning (4,287 completions), the top pick in the 2004 draft, and Rivers (4,005 completions), fourth overall in 2004, are the only quarterback trio from the same draft class with 4,000 career completions.
