The average 13-year-old spends a Friday afternoon looking forward to finishing school for the week, but Chinese amateur Li Linqiang was busy making history at the Hainan Open.

At the age of 13 years, 11 months and 11 days, Li will go down in the record books following his exploits on home soil.

Li is level par at the halfway mark, 12 shots adrift of leader Erik van Rooyen after the teenager signed for a a three-over 75 following a promising opening round of 69.

The record-breaking youngster may have some school work to catch up on early next week following a weekend on the golf course.
